5 Signs Your Website Needs a Redesign

Your Website Is Working Against You

A bad website costs you customers every single day. People can't find you. Or they find you, but leave immediately. Here are five signs you should take seriously.

1. Your Site Takes Over 3 Seconds to Load

53% of visitors leave a site that takes more than 3 seconds to load. That's more than half. Gone before they've seen what you offer.

Google also penalizes slow sites. You end up further down in search results, and fewer people find you.

What you can do: Test your site on PageSpeed Insights (free from Google). If you score below 50 on mobile, it's time to act. Often it comes down to large images, heavy code, or poor hosting.

A modern website should load in under 1.5 seconds. That's entirely achievable with the right technology.

2. It Works Poorly on Mobile

Over 80% of all Google searches happen on mobile. If your website is difficult to use on a phone, you're losing the vast majority of potential customers.

Check for yourself. Open your website on your phone. Is the text too small? Do you have to zoom in? Are the buttons hard to tap with your finger? Then you have a problem.

What you can do: A mobile-optimized website isn't a luxury. It's the minimum. Every website we build is designed mobile-first, then adapted for desktop.

3. The Design Looks Outdated

People judge your business by your website. 75% say they assess a company's credibility based on its website design. A design from 2018 doesn't exactly scream "we've got it together."

Signs of outdated design: image collages, Flash animations, Comic Sans or similar fonts, low image quality, and menus that are impossible to find.

What you can do: You don't need a revolution. Sometimes updated colors, modern fonts, better images, and a cleaner layout is enough. Other times it's smarter to start from scratch.

4. You Get Little Traffic From Google

Have you checked whether people actually find you when they search? Log into Google Search Console (free). See how many people click through from search results.

If the number is low, it could mean several things. Maybe your content doesn't answer what people are searching for. Maybe your pages are missing basic SEO. Or maybe Google can't properly index your site.

What you can do: Start with the basics. Does each page have a unique title and description? Do you have text that actually explains what you offer? Are you using the words your customers search for?

A good website is built with SEO at the foundation. Not as something you bolt on afterwards.

5. Visitors Don't Get in Touch

You might have traffic, but nobody calls. Nobody fills out the contact form. Nobody books an appointment.

That means your website isn't doing its job. It informs, but it doesn't sell. Visitors don't know what to do next.

What you can do: Every page needs a clear call to action. "Get in touch," "Get a quote," "Book an appointment." The button should be visible without scrolling. The contact form should have a maximum of 3 to 4 fields. Nobody likes filling out 15 fields to ask a question.

Add your phone number and email in a prominent spot. Some people prefer to call. Make it easy for them.

A Redesign Is an Investment

Many think of a redesign as an expense. That's the wrong framing. A website that works brings you customers. A website that doesn't work costs you customers.

Let's say you get 500 visitors per month. With a slow, outdated site, maybe 0.5% of them convert. That's 2-3 inquiries.

With a fast, modern site that's easy to use? A 2 to 3% conversion rate is realistic. That's 10 to 15 inquiries. From the same traffic.

The math is simple. What's a new customer worth to you? Multiply that by 10 extra inquiries per month. That's the value of a redesign.

You Don't Have to Do Everything at Once

Do you recognize yourself in one or two of these points? Then you might just need some adjustments. Recognize yourself in three or more? Then it's probably time for a new website.
